2008 Chardonnay
Tasting Note:
'Trentham Estate is one of the quality-focused Murray Valley estates that have been changing the way we regard wines from this hot inland region. Once home to oceans of forgettable vin ordinaire, the best wines are now worthy of comparison with those from more esteemed places, and economies of scale still keep prices low. This chardonnay is great value, offering well-concentrated melon and mango-like varietal cues with some creamy richness and a balanced seasoning of spicy oak. The palate has a tangy flavour, smooth, lush texture, good persistence and a long, dry finish. $15 well spent.'
- Ralph Kyte-Powell, The Age, 17 March 2009.
Independents Note:
'After 20 years of sustained high quality, the Trentham wines produced by the Murphy family most surely rank as benchmarks for all Murray Darling winemakers. The '08 chardonnay may not be especially complex or precious, but it's clearly varietal with its peach and citrus aromas and flavours that are boosted by some toasty oak. A thoroughly decent drink at a very reasonable ask.'
