In the late 1930s, Benjamin George Lee Killerby established a general store in Margaret River to supply the early pioneers in South Western Australia. In 1973, his grandson, Dr Benjamin Barry Killerby, established one of the first vineyards in the Geographe region. Since its establishment in 1973, Killerby has grown to be one of Western Australia’s leading small wineries, with a reputation for producing an outstanding range of varietal wines. From a family background in beef and dairy farming, Ferngrove founder Murray Burton purchased land at Frankland River in 1996. With productive soils, a temperate Mediterranean climate and benefitting from the cooling influence of the converging Southern and Indian oceans, the location - 360 km south of Perth and some 90km from the south coast - was ideal for premium grape growing. The cool climate allows grapes to ripen with remarkable consistency, year on year. In 1999 a 'state of the art' winery was established at Ferngrove, the...

Coriole Estate sits high in the undulating hills of the McLaren Vale, within sight of the sea and just an hour from Adelaide.  Original farm buildings, which sit proudly in the centre of the garden and cellar door of the winery were built in 1860, with the first vines being planted immediately after the end of World War 1.  A property of 33 hectares, the scale of production is bijou when compared to some of the more commercial McLaren Vale growers.  After a Seckford Agencies team visit in May this year, it was...

Hollick Wines is a small family owned winery in Coonawarra, in South Eastern South Australia. Ian and Wendy Hollick purchased a piece of grazing land on the southern end of the Coonawarra district in 1974. This small block of land was one of the original allocations in the Coonawarra Fruit Colony which John Riddoch founded in 1890. It was never developed as a fruit block but instead was the site of a tannery, and later a dairy.   Since 1975 the Hollicks have progressively planted Cabernet Sauvignon,...

Trentham’s Lantana collection of wines reflects the real Australian way of wine – true-to-style characteristics and high quality, consistent blends that can be enjoyed on a range of occasions. The Semillon Chardonnay is a lovely young wine with fresh fruity flavours. Semillon generally produces light aromatic flavours ranging from lemon to straw, while Chardonnay shows melon and tropical fruit characters. The blend has resulted in a fresh fragrant lighter style showing attractive aromas of straw and tropical fruits. The palate is light and soft making the wine very easy drinking. Considered...

The Murphy family have grown grapes in the Murray Darling region of Australia, part of the Big Rivers, since 1909. They build on this experience to create fruit-driven attractive wines. The grape selection and winemaking practices at Murphys aim to highlight the fruit flavours with these wines. These appealing styles show ripe fruit aromas and soft, rich palates. Murphy Vineyards have selected, from their own plantings, Chardonnay and Shiraz grapes of good sound quality which have displayed true varietal expression in the final wine. ...

This family-owned boutique winery is set right on the banks of the Murray River at Trentham Cliffs just outside Mildura. The Murphy family arrived in Australia in 1909 from Ireland and so are numbered among the Irish ‘Winegeese’ who, from the 18th century onwards, engaged in the wine trade in the countries of their adoption and were instrumental in the viticultural development of some of the finest wine-growing areas of the world. Today the many and illustrious wines and labels of the Winegeese have become synonymous with quality on...

Christa and Rolf form the heart of Rolf Binder wines, continuing a family wine-making tradition that spans nearly 60 years. Their parents arrived in Australia in 1950 - just 2 amongst the many post-war immigrants from Europe - and met a grape grower in the Barossa while working to help pay for their assisted passage. From such unlikely beginnings, a passion for the Barossa was born, a winery was purchased and a new life began. They soon came to appreciate the riches of the Barossa, the old vine...

The Pikes story began when Henry Pike emigrated from Dorset to South Australia in 1878 and established a family brewing business, Pikes Dorset Brewery in the Adelaide Hills. Many years later his great-grandson Edgar followed in his footsteps, setting up a wine business, which in 1984 became Pikes Wines, with Edgar's sons Neil (winemaker) and Andrew (viticulturist) at the helm. Situated in the verdant Polish Hill River sub-region of the Clare Valley, the estate is renowned for its Clare Valley Riesling with the iconic Pike fish label. In 1996, Pikes...

Noon Winery is a small, family-owned winery in McLaren Vale producing earth-shattering red wines! Drew and his wife Raegan - gentle, considered people - took over the family winery in 1996. Their quiet respect for the land they nurture and the vines they tend is reflected in their wine-making style; gloriously powerful wines with minimal processing. The property has 4.2ha of estate-grown bush vine Grenache vineyards planted in 1934 (the Home Block) and 1943 (BJ’s Block), with plantings in 1999 of a further 1.5ha, mostly Graciano. The Shiraz and...
