Ferngrove Winery and Vines

Ferngrove, from Western Australia's Frankland River, are our Producer of the Month for August. From a family background in beef and dairy farming, Ferngrove founder Murray Burton purchased land at Frankland River in 1996. With productive soils, a temperate Mediterranean climate and benefitting from the cooling influence of the converging Southern and Indian oceans, the location – 360 km south of Perth and some 90km from the south coast – was ideal for premium grape growing. The cool climate allows grapes to ripen with remarkable consistency, year on year. In 1999...

We are delighted with the following recent awards and press coverage of Seckford Agencies' wines: Bremerton's 2012 Old Adam Shiraz was awarded 93 pts by Huon Hooke, with the comment: 'Very deep dense red/purple colour. Very toasty vanillan oaky to sniff, and the palate is very rich, smooth and opulent, with hedonistic opulence and extravagantly rich old-viney flavour. The wine has been loaded up with oak, but seems to have the strength of character to survive. A very concentrated, dense yet supple wine with a big future.'   The Guardian's wine correspondant, Fiona Beckett, recommended snapping...

Excerpt from The Sunday Times -  8th June 2014, Bob Tyrer. Part of me has been feeling glum because I feared that my little plot of vines was suffering from leaf roll virus, a scourge of modern viticulture. It makes the leaves go a lovely red but blocks photosynthesis, so they can’t do their job of converting sunlight into Château Bob. There is no cure. I was thinking of pulling them up, yet they are so young. Enter one of New Zealand’s greatest winemakers, Larry McKenna of Escarpment Vineyard in Martinborough, who was here for the London Wine Fair. Invited to lunch...

Coriole is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide. The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery. The original vineyards were planted immediately after the first world war. Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, and is the major variety planted on the estate. The first...

The Glenelly Estate is in the Idas Valley, located in Stellenbosch, on the southern slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. Its origins date back to the seventeenth century. Simon van der Stel, Governor of the Cape, gave the land to the Huguenot François Villion. In 1812, the estate passed to Johan Peter de Villiers, and finally in 1865 it became the property of a British family, the Garlicks. They owned it for 138 years until its purchase in 2003 by May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who for over 30...
