2007 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel
Tasting Note:
This is drinking in its absolute sweet spot at the moment. A beautiful tall bottle leads onto red fruit, then dark chocolate , then rich, full, plum flavours, finishing all cassis vanilla and spice.Independents Note:
The nose has a racy character, the mainly black fruits bilberry and black cherry spiced up by herbal black pepper. The mid palate is rich the black fruits backed by dark chocolate and then towards the back the fresher more herbal spice gives an appealing twist to the tail. 95% Zinfandel, 5% SyrahWhat to eat with:
Perfect with all red meat dishes. Not too weighty, so will compliment many meals. The good acidity will help to cut through any fattiness, a good choice with a roast meal.Analysis

Fermentation was consistent and relatively cool - around 80 degrees F. The mountain grapes were aged in barrels for 18 months, the valley grapes were aged in
Stainless steel (to preserve the fruitiness and mitigate the oak). The wines were not aged on lees. They were racked 3 times prior to blending and bottling.
Made from old Zinfandel vines, averaging 50 years of age. All grapes produced in Lodi. The grapes were harvested in late October / early November. Grapes harvested from 2 vineyards, on sandy loam and 1 mountainside vineyard.
