Kanonkop 2026 Harvest Report

Kanonkop Team Harvest 2026

On 27 January 2026, the annual harvest started on Kanonkop, beginning with our first Pinotage grapes. We finally brought in the last bin of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes on 18 March, concluding one of the longest harvesting spells in recent years.
Overall, the 2026 harvest has been a big success, beginning with a very cold winter in 2025, followed by a moderate December, unexpected cold and rain in February, and ending with a couple of heat waves in March.
Despite some surprises in weather, the team welcomed the challenges, and we are excited for the quality of the resulting wines produced over the last two months.
The 2026 harvest delivered an impressive crop, during which we broke our own record twice for the most tonnes of grapes brought into the cellar on a single day, again attesting to the resilience of our harvest team.

“I am very pleased with the planning we did to set our picking dates. I really think this crucial part of harvest was well executed, and I commend the team for their hard work to ensure the cellar was ready to receive each new load of grapes as they came in.”

— Francois Van Zyl, Head Winemaker of Kanonkop

With harvest now at an end, our cellar team can finally enjoy a well-deserved rest. It has been a long stretch to reach the finish line, and once again they have kept the Kanonkop flag flying high throughout the season.
