Western Ridge 1975 Planting Shiraz, JJ Hahn

This single vineyard Shiraz sourced from the Rolf Binder Estate on the Barossa’s Western Ridge sub region, really shows off the richness of old vine Barossa Shiraz.

The wine has a bright brick red with deep red lights. The nose contains lifted aromas of vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate and liquorice. The full-bodied palate is rich with flavours of red berry fruits and plums, with hints of chocolate, mocha, liquorice and vanilla. A refreshing acidity and velvety smooth tannins. Good depth with a long finish. It is complex and intense without being overbearing.

Vinification details

The Shiraz vines grow on the north-facing slopes of the Binder Estate Western Ridge vineyard, an area famed for rich, full- flavoured wines with lovely depth. The grapes are sourced from selected parcels from mature dry-grown vines and hand-harvested late March for maximum quality. The wine was aged for 22 months in a mixture of French (50%) and American oak (50%) barrels, then blended to create a full bodied, yet juicy vibrant style.
