We received this update from Lake Road wines who are producers of the Stanley Sauvignon Blanc.
With harvest now complete and the 2026 wines underway, we thought it would be a great opportunity to share an update from our winemaker on what is shaping up to be a classic vintage for us here in New Zealand:
Lower than average yields combined with exceptional ripening conditions meant fruit quality delivered this harvest was pristine. From flowering onwards, we experienced classic conditions with cool nights, sunny days, and very low humidity throughout the season. The lack of humidity played a major role in keeping fruit clean and healthy leading into harvest, while the cool nights helped preserve the bright acidity our Sauvignon Blanc is renowned for. A cooler summer than usual also resulted in an extended ripening period, giving the grapes additional time for flavour and sweetness accumulation. As a result, the 2026 wines are expected to display delicious tropical fruit flavours alongside some added textural qualities from the extended cooler conditions. Overall, the wines are showing all the hallmarks of a classic vintage.
