Rich and balanced showing lifted fruit aromas of plum, dark cherry and chocolate. A long, persistent palate well balanced with fruit sweetness and fine mocha oak.
Vintage conditions
The 2022 vintage for Heathcote was near perfect with a cold winter in 2021 followed by a wet spring and a mild, dry vintage period.
Vinification details
The grapes were harvested in the cool of the evening on March 9th and transported to our winery for early morning crushing. The juice was fermented on skins, pressed and then transferred to French and American puncheons. After 14 months the wine was re-vatted and bottled at the winery.

The 2020 harvest in Heathcote was a depiction of perfection with a long cool spring, and decent rain provided great health through the vineyard. The crops were light but super intense with the summer months hot and very dry, producing outstanding quality of fruit.
Vinification details
The fruit was selectively harvested on March 2nd, crushed to a small closed fermenter and pumped over daily. The wine was then pressed and matured in 40% new and 60% older French oak barriques for 18 months prior to bottling.

The fruit was selectively harvested on 26th February, crushed to a small closed fermenter and pumped over daily with a cool, long fermentation using a Syrah yeast strain. Extended time on skins allowed the tannins to soften and balance with the primary fruit, about 3 weeks in total. The wine was then pressed and matured in 40% new and 60% older French oak barriques for 18 months prior to bottling

The 2017 vintage in Heathcote was characterised by a longer and cooler than average growing season, producing wines with great finesse and structure. A relatively cold winter was followed by a cool and dry spring. The cool, dry and consistent conditions prevailed throughout summer, resulting in a later than average harvest date in March 2017.

The grapes were crushed and fermented before pressing and transferring to French oak for maturation. After 18 months the wine was bottled for cellaring prior to release.
