A Sauvignon Blanc made in a more tropical style, from vineyards in Elgin and Stellenbosch.
Tasting note

A Sauvignon blanc representing the more tropical style. Shaped around fresh fruit aromas such as granadilla (of the passion fruit family), pear and guava. The palate expresses great purity in fruit and a softer acidity. A lovely wine to accompany any summer dish.

Vintage conditions

Good winter rains of a more ‘normal’ volume after the drought. The season started well with favourable growing conditions which produced a good crop. Wines were showing very well with good acidities and wonderful fruit expression from the moderate to cool ripening period. Mid ripening season rain did add a little twist to the vintage but not affecting the result of quality wines being made.

Vintage conditions

Good winter rains but still below the normal average, with occasional warm days and some snowfall during late winter / early spring along with some rain to help dam levels rise. These conditions also prepped for good, even budding to start the growing season. During ripening the odd heat wave was experienced but overall lovely warm days and coolish nights allowed for perfect ripening and earlier picking dates. This resulted in lovely fresh, flavoured and rich wines with relatively low alcohol levels.

Vintage conditions

The ongoing drought continued to play a huge role on the 2019 vintage, a dry and warm winter hindering the dormancy period which is vital for even growth and survival. Across the board Waterford experienced on average a 30% drop in yield. Berries at harvest time were tiny and highly concentrated in flavour, and due to relatively cool and dry summer weather, the wines also ended up with low alcohols and softer acidities.
